Product vs Production

Quartermaster’s log day 3, 5th June 2014.

Today was extremely productive, and I’m truly proud of what we managed to accomplish by this evening.  If we can keep this pace up we won’t have any difficulty in meeting our deadlines and goals.

On top of that it feels good to have gotten so much done. The sense of accomplishment is a reward in and of itself.

I was able to get a lot of work done on the incentives list for our kickstarter page and I’m really excited about some of the things we’ll have to offer.

Among the more exciting items, we plan to offer to two lucky individuals: The actual leather-bound daily logbooks we’ll be keeping!!!

We’re also looking into ways to include some of our contributors in the final cut of the documentary.  That’s right, Dave’s the skipper, I’m Gilligan and you can be the movie star!!!

But to really top things off right…  well, that will have to be a surprise for now. But don’t worry, the Kickstarter page will be up and ready to go soon enough.

I know, I know.  That’s not soon enough… but we’ve got tons of other info and updates coming.

I was also able to get more work done on the budget, mostly in the form of research on low-end audio and video equipment.

One viable possibility for a waterproof digital camera is the Pentax Optio WG-3 16 MP which has an LCD screen and boasts shake reduction and a maximum underwater depth of 45 feet.

Anything with image stabilization will be extremely helpful when shooting from the boat, plus the underwater capabilities of this camera gives us the ability to shoot some important footage and thus make it high up on my list.

We also need a good sound recorder and microphone. I think I’ve found both in one package with a mini clip on voice recorder which I’ve picked out for its adjustable microphone sensitivity, which will help when recording on deck with the wind whipping past us and filling our sails.

The camera looks like it’ll run about $300 while the audio recorders will cost around $90 each.

More on that in the days to come…

There was a lot more done today, including work on the website, the arranging of some meetings and even work on our logo and flag.

I wish I could talk more about it all but it’s time to turn in for the day and rest up for another big day tomorrow, so I’ll leave you with a quote and the hope that your day was as good as mine.

Goodnight.
